Building Effective Boards Workshop

2-day program 4:00 -7:00 p.m. each day As a leader in our community, you bring a passion for improving the quality of life in Greenville. This two-part workshop was designed for current or prospective non-profit board members and executives to enhance their understanding of the vital role a Board of Directors plays in the success of a non-profit organization. These two valuable days will be some of the best time you’ll spend learning about how you can be a more effective board member. Part 1: Board Recruitment and Development This 90-minute session will emphasize the importance of board recruitment and development as a year-round process. The composition of the board and the development of board members to be the most effective they can be is the responsibility of the board itself. Techniques and activities to carry out this important responsibility will be shared and discussed. Fundraising This 90-minute session will clarify the board’s responsibility to ensure adequate resources for the non-profits they represent. Participants will learn about the many ways board members can meet this responsibility and impact fundraising. Specific techniques and activities to enhance board involvement in fundraising will be discussed. Part 2: Governance This 3-hour session will give you valuable insights to the inner workings, functions and responsibilities of a community board as a whole and of its individual members. Whether you choose to implement all or some of the principles, you and your board will become more effective. The training will illustrate the principles and best practices of governance as defined by South Carolina Association of Non Profit Organizations.
