About the Carolina First Center for Excellence
The Carolina First Center for Excellence (CFCE) is a
program of the Greenville Chamber Foundation, formed in 2001 to bring
Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) strategies to Greenville County
classrooms. CFCE has changed the way teachers teach and students learn by
giving students a part in the creation of their learning process.
As a result of this change in the student's role in the classroom, they have
become responsible for their learning, better critical thinkers and problem
solvers, and more motivated in and out of the classroom. CFCE students are
given the skills to prepare them not only for the next test, semester,
grade, but for the next step beyond: life. CQI strategies foster high
integrity, high performance, and ethical behavior, which is why employees at
GE, Bosch, Michelin, Caterpillar and many other highly successful businesses
manage their organizations and train their employees to use the same
principles as CFCE teaches in schools.
The corporate world has understood the importance of quality learning for
over a decade, and now CFCE is bringing that same training to teachers,
classrooms, and students across Greenville County. The Quality tools and
teachings of CFCE apply to the superintendent on down to kindergarten
students. Principals, teachers and students all take responsibility for
their learning and actions, which all translates to better performance,
academic achievement, classroom behavior, motivation, and problem solving
skills.
CFCE is guided by the idea that "people can always improve when they
understand the measures by which they are being judged."
