Award Winners

In an attempt to recognize outstanding efforts of our members and businesses in the Greenville community, the Greenville Chamber has established awards to recognize such efforts. At its 118th Annual Meeting, the Chamber recognized the following annual award winners:

Small Business of the Year
Minority Business of the Year
Max Heller Neighborhood Improvement Award
Buck Mickel Award for Business and Community Leadership
Athena Award

Young Professional of the Year
Ambassador of the Year

The 2007 Small Business of the Year Award Winner:
Acumen, I.T.

Qualifications: Membership in the Chamber, in business for five years, a for-profit entity locally owned and managed within the Upstate. The winner is chosen based on overall success of the business and evidence of contributions made to the community.

The 2007 Minority Business of the Year Award Winner:
Allstate Insurance - Babette Jones Agency

Qualifications: Business must be a Chamber member, a for-profit organization with local ownership, and in business for at least three years. The winner is chosen based on the growth of the business and community involvement.

The 2007 Max Heller Neighborhood Improvement Award Winner:
West Greenville Revitalization Partnership

Qualifications: Organization in Greenville County that makes significant progress in improving a neighborhood though physical appearance of the area, human development of the residents, or other efforts that improve quality of life.

The 2007 Buck Mickel Award for Business and Community Leadership Winner: 
Nancy Whitworth, the City of Greenville’s economic development director

Qualifications: This award is given to a local civic leader for outstanding contributions to the community.  Past winners include Governor Carroll J. Campbell, Jr., local attorney and environmentalist Tommy Wyche, Senator Verne Smith, and former Greenville Mayor Max Heller.

The 2007 Athena Award Winner:
Barbara League, vice president of G.F. League Company, Inc.

Qualifications: This award recognizes a business executive (either male or female) who demonstrates excellence, creativity and initiative in helping women reach their full leadership potential.

The 2007 Chairman's Award Winner:
Irv Welling of Elliott Davis, LLC

Qualifications: This award recognizes one outstanding individual for his or her leadership and dedication to the Greenville Chamber.

The 2007 Young Professional of the Year Winner:
Sallie Holder of Leatherwood Walker Todd & Mann, P.C.

Qualifications: This award is designed to recognize an individual between the ages of 22 and 39 for his or her involvement in the community.

The 2007 Ambassador of the Year Award Winner:
Bridget Stalvey of Hawthorn Suites

Qualifications:  This award recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to the Chamber's retention efforts by conducting personal visits with members to discuss their business needs and participation in Chamber activities.
