Public Relations
Got news, but don't quite know what to do with it? The media loves to get hold
of new information, and we can help you get it to them. Check out our
Media Contact List
for the Upstate area TV, radio and newspapers. We're also providing you with a
sample press release, suitable for use with any type of news-related
information you may want to submit. But, there are a few guidelines when writing
a News Release.
1. Always put a contact name at the top, preferably the right-hand corner, and
phone number.
2. MAKE SURE YOUR HEADLINE IS IN ALL CAPS.
3. Include a dateline (City, State) before the news copy actually begins.
4. All information in the body of the news release needs to be factual. Make
sure the most important news comes first, with history and background
information saved for the middle and end.
5. If your release is only one page in length, make sure you add ### centered at
the bottom. (In PR lingo, those three mean END) If you're not done after the
first page, put MORE (also centered) at the bottom and continue your release.
Remember to put ### wherever your message ends.
Those are the important things; the rest is up to you. Once you have your release proofed and ready to go, use the media list to target your sources and you're on your way. And don't be afraid to follow up with your media contacts that's why they're there. If you should have any other questions, contact the Communications Division at 864-242-1050.
