Doing Things That Matter

Posted by: Nika White on Thursday, April 2, 2015
As an organization, everyday our staff is challenged to do something that matters.  Something that will help create prosperity for our community.  Something that will have lasting impact.  Something that will get to the crux of the matter and create real opportunity for change.  Effectively engaging the corporate community in the work of economic inclusion matters.  The mission of economic inclusion is to support under-represented and under-utilized businesses as suppliers, strategic partners, and effective engines for economic development.  Engaging the corporate community to more effectively improve the overall economic base of Upstate South Carolina is the key to economic vitality in our region.  Organizations like Denny’s, Milliken, Michelin, Lockheed Martin, Greenville Health System, Bi-Lo Holdings, and BMW understand how including diverse suppliers benefit business and contribute to the economic well-being of the region. To increase the number of corporate community participants in activities of economic inclusion, the Greenville Chamber collaborated with Carolinas Virginia Minority Development Council to offer a Corporate Leader Engagement Breakfast on March 25, 2015. Our goal was to share compelling evidence regarding:
  • How a strong supplier diversity program can lead to a more viable and competitive business community
  • Best practices for establishing a supplier diversity initiative
  • Key resources available to assists with those efforts
  • Impact on a corporation’s bottom line
A question and answer session followed the discussion and included a panel of corporate leaders experienced in effective supplier diversity programs. This endeavor initiated interests among organizations to take steps to realize success in supplier diversity and drive positive business outcomes and community impact.
