Haskew Announces Retirement

Posted by: Marion Mann on Thursday, August 20, 2015
After a forty-year career in chamber of commerce management and nearly twelve years as President and CEO of the Greenville Chamber, Ben Haskew announced his retirement plans today to the Chamber’s Board of Directors. Haskew came to Greenville in December of 2003 following a four-year stint as director of the Florida Chamber Federation, an initiative of the Florida Chamber of Commerce.  He served as President and CEO of the Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce from 1985 until 1995 when he assumed the President’s position of the Cobb County, Georgia Chamber. Chamber Board Chair Julie Brown, President of Godshall Staffing, says Haskew has been a perfect fit for the Chamber and Greenville for more than a decade. “Ben was a focused leader who developed several successive strategic plans with emphasis on economic prosperity, advocacy, workforce development and diversity. He is a fantastic collaborator, which has been a key element not only in the success of the Chamber but has added tremendous value to the community at large. He will be hard to replace.” David Lominack, Market President for TD Bank and the Chamber’s current Chair-elect, will lead a national search for Haskew’s replacement. “We expect the process will take several months”, says Lominack, “as we develop a profile for the type of candidate we desire and canvas the country. The Greenville Chamber is highly regarded across the chamber industry and we are optimistic about attracting a very strong candidate pool”. Haskew will remain in his position while the search is underway. Among achievements of the Chamber during Haskew’s tenure he notes the creation of NEXT, the very successful Accelerate economic development program, launch of the diversity initiative, the Upstate Chamber Coalition (thirteen chambers working together on public policy issues), renovation of the Chamber’s headquarters facility and development of a wide array of programs and services for the small business community. The Chamber also achieved Four-Star Accreditation by the U.S. Chamber in March of this year. “It’s been a real pleasure to work in this remarkable community with remarkable leadership”, says Haskew. “I’ve been fortunate to work with a great staff and dedicated volunteers; I can’t imagine a better place to wrap up one’s career.”
