Greenville Chamber Hires Liz Horton as Senior Vice President of Operations

The Greenville Chamber of Commerce has announced the addition of Elizabeth “Liz” A. Horton as Senior Vice President of Operations. She will assume the position on September 1st.

Horton has served as the Executive Director of the Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center since 2008. She has over 14 years of chamber experience, including five years at the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce and a year and a half at the Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce in North Carolina.

As Senior Vice President of Operations at the Greenville Chamber, Horton will have a wide range of management responsibilities, including investor development, event management, small business programming, marketing and communications, facilities and leadership development. She will develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community leaders, investors and allies.

Greenville Chamber President and CEO Carlos Phillips notes, “I am thrilled that Liz is joining our Team. She brings with her a wealth of Chamber experience at all levels, as well as tremendous energy and excitement for our organization, our industry, and our business community.”

According to Liz, “I am extremely humbled by this opportunity and look forward to serving the Greenville Chamber and community. I look forward to working with Carlos and the entire Greenville Chamber team, and it is my sincere hope that my previous experience will allow me to have a positive impact within the organization.”

In 2006, Liz was named South Carolina’s Outstanding Young American in Business Leadership, and in 2011 as Chamber of Commerce Executive of the Year for South Carolina by the Carolinas Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives. She graduated from Leadership Columbia in 2006 and from Leadership Cabarrus in 2008. In 2012, she Liz graduated from the U.S. Chamber’s Institute for Organization Management earning her IOM designation, and in 2014, she received the designation of Certified Chamber Executive of the Carolinas (CCeC).   

Liz currently serves as a commissioner for the Olde English District Tourism Commission, as a board member for the Carolinas Association for Chamber of Commerce Executives and the Midstate Chambers Coalition, and on the Board of Regents for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Southeast Institute for Organization Management. She is on the Kershaw County Economic Development Advisory Council, the Regional Advisory Board for Duke Energy Carolinas, and is an ex-officio board member for both the Historic Camden Foundation and the Camden Business Alliance. Liz has been a member of the Camden Rotary Club since July 2008.

Originally from Honaker, VA, Liz has been in South Carolina since 1998. She has been married to her husband Derek for almost 23 years and they have a 5 ½ year old son, Huck.

What a great addition to the team. Liz is awesome. It's obvious that the Chamber is not complacent with past successes - more evidence that Chamber plans on continuing to strive for excellence and impact. Great people make great organizations. Congrats.
