When I joined Pulse in 2007, I was looking for new friends and volunteer opportunities. I knew that Pulse was a hub for social and community involvement, but I never expected it to open so many doors and transform me personally and professionally. The purpose of Pulse is to be a voice for Greenville’s young talent. Pulse connects, engages and inspires through leadership development, social enrichment and community investment.  I can tell you, that over the years, Pulse has certainly fulfilled this purpose in my life over these past nine years.

I have a passion for event planning, so it was a natural fit for me to join the Pulse Social Committee. I stayed on this committee for three years before taking the helm as the Social Chair in 2014. That year I had a goal to host our socials at new and different venues in order for our members to gain different experiences from one social to the next. The main change that year was the inception of Ballpark Bash, the largest young professional social networking event in our region and our organization’s signature membership drive.

In 2015, I became the Pulse Investment Chair, where my team and I managed sponsorships for the various programs. I began 2016 as Vice Chair to Ebony Austin, who in three short months got hired by the Chamber, catapulting me into the Chair position in March. And what an amazing ride it has been! In addition to assuming the role of Pulse Chair this year, I also graduated from Leadership Greenville Class 42 and started a new job as Event Specialist for the SC American Red Cross. Pulse and the Chamber leadership have had an incredible personal and professional impact on me and I have grown leaps and bounds in my confidence and leadership skills by staying involved.

I believe that you can't achieve your goals without great mentors and people who stand by your side and cheer you on as you navigate your journey. You must surround yourself with love and people who believe in you, and you must also believe in yourself. There’s a light in YOU that shines to the World.

We have worked hard this year to bring quality programming to Pulse members. It’s our desire to develop the future leaders of the Upstate by helping to develop the skills needed as each individual member navigates his or her journey. We also want to continue to show young professionals what a rich community the Upstate offers to help retain talent in our community.

So as you consider your plans for 2017, I hope that Pulse will be high on the list. You never know who you might connect with at a social, a leadership luncheon or by volunteering. You’ve got your whole life and career ahead of you. Let Pulse catapult you into your next chapter, and beyond.
