Creating a Pathway for County Square Development

Posted by: Jason Zacher on Thursday, January 23, 2020

Thanks to the six councilors (Knox White, Russell Stall, Wil Brasington, John DeWorken, Lillian Flemming, and Kenneth Gibson) who approved a once-in-a-generation project last night that will create thousands of jobs and advance our community.

The Greenville Chamber is proud of Greenville City Council for their action last night. As our President & CEO Carlos Phillips told the council last night...

"Thank you for your past leadership that’s given Greenville citizens the opportunity to live in a community that is the envy of communities throughout the world.

Creating a pathway for the County Square development represents yet another opportunity to demonstrate greatness and bold leadership.

Our community doesn’t see many $1 billion project opportunities, and we won’t see another one for at least 10 years unless we figure this one out.

This project is huge! It will generate thousands of construction jobs, and plentiful career and robust income generating opportunities that will significantly impact our economy for several generations after construction is completed.

The devil always lies in the details on projects of this scope and I acknowledge there are several important issues to resolve here-affordable and workforce housing, traffic patterns, building heights, and I’m sure there are priorities that I’ve missed.

But this body has demonstrated the ability to address hefty matters in the past which should give you and our citizens every confidence that you can and will do it again. That confidence stems from what I witness every day in the Greenville area. We’re all blessed to live in a community hailed as one of the best in the country.

Let’s not be afraid of greatness. Let’s take this opportunity embrace greatness once again by advancing this once in a generation initiative that will position Greenville for greatness for generations to come.

Thank you for your time, your leadership, and your commitment to our community!"
