The PROPEL GVL Experience

Posted by: Megan Campbell on Wednesday, August 26, 2020

Last year I had the opportunity to go through the inaugural PROPEL GVL program and a year later I can proudly say, “It works!”

PROPEL GVL is a six-week board training and executive leadership program produced in partnership between the Greenville Chamber and United Way of Greenville County.

Even if you are a seasoned, board-serving pro, the program is a great refresher on best utilizing your position to promote, support and champion the nonprofit organizations that you serve. Over the course of six weeks, program participants will gain the following:

  1. A more thorough knowledge of effective board or committee service
  2. Introductions to local nonprofit executive directors and board members at the end-of-program “Board Fair”
  3. As with all Greenville Chamber programming, participants will gain an expanded network and enhanced sense of community built with fellow participants, instructors and speakers

I recently began serving on a local board – my first foray into board service. Without this training, I would feel unprepared and hesitant. In fact, before PROPEL GVL, I had turned down positions because I felt nervous, unqualified and did not know what to expect. Now, I feel prepared and equipped to bring my best self to this nonprofit that I love (shoutout to Girls on the Run Upstate). This is a direct result of PROPEL GVL.

If you find yourself in similar shoes, or you are simply looking for a refresher, this program is a great place to start.

While this year’s virtual program may look a little different, the dedicated teams at the Chamber and United Way are committed to providing top-quality programming to prepare you for effective board service. The application deadline is September 25th, with the program beginning on November 2nd.
