After relocating from a city filled with unions, Cassandra Brayboy landed in Greenville, SC in the summer of 1995. Learning the ropes and navigating the south was simple and sweet as southern style sweet tea for Cassy. She quickly landed employment with a local electrical firm and got to work. In January 2000, Cassy decided to start up Cassy Electric out of the trunk and backseat of her sedan. Armed with a small ladder, drill and tool box Cassy helped the ladies from the church and friends with their electrical challenges. While working full time for her employer, Cassy worked evenings and weekends running her business. As the business grew, Cassy hired helpers to work full time while she was away at her full time job. In January 2015 Cassy retired from her employer and began working full time in her business. In 2019, Cassy sat down with her daughter to discuss what retirement looked like and how she could preserve her legacy. Ebony, Cassy’s daughter reached out to several of her close colleagues and entrepreneur friends and began asking a ton of questions. They pointed Ebony in the direction of understanding the importance behind the financial position of the business. They challenged her to dig deep into the numbers to see what the business could do and has done historically. With that, they found that the company was in a great financial position and growth was very much a possibility. In 2019, the business had been selected to participate in the Greenville Chamber of Commerce Minority Business Accelerator program , one of only 7 in the nation. Ebony Sullivan resigned from her full time employer and joined the family business as the Chief Operating Officer in January 2020. Since this time, the company has grown it’s gross revenue over 30%, added new employees to help with the demand of the growing business and was selected as the minority business of the year by the Greenville Chamber and CommunityWorks in honor of small business week. The business is operated at the home base office in Greenville, SC and has a total of 3 part time staff, 6 full time.
