Greenville City Council Election Dates Announced

Thought you weren’t going to hear the word “election” again for a while? Think again. Greenville County municipalities have off-year elections: Fountain Inn, Greenville, Greer, Mauldin, Simpsonville and Travelers Rest. The processes and information for the City of Greenville’s elections are below.  More information and important filling dates for other municipalities can be found by visiting their websites.

Q: What Election is this?
A: Greenville Municipal Elections

Q: What Seats are being voted on?
A: Four seats (with incumbent in parentheses):

  • City Council District 2 (Lillian Brock-Flemming)
  • City Council District 4 (Wil Brasington)
  • City Council Member at-Large (Russell Stall)
  • Greenville Water Commission (aka Commissioner of Public Works) (Jim Bannister)

We understand all incumbents are planning to run again as of the date of this blog post.

Q: When is the Election?
A: Tuesday, November 2

Q: Who is eligible to run for these seats?
A: Qualified electors of the state, county and city, and have resided within the corporate limits of the city for at least six months immediately preceding the date of their election.

Q: What are the important filing deadlines?
A: Tuesday, March 16, 2021, 12:00 PM – Beginning date for filing statements of intention of candidacy with political parties for nominations by convention or primary.
    Tuesday, March 30, 2021, 12:00 PM – Closing date for filing statements of intention of candidacy with political parties for nominations by convention or primary.
    Tuesday, June 8, 2021 – Party primaries
    Two weeks after (if necessary) – primary runoffs if necessary
    Thursday, July 15, 12:00 PM – Closing date for petition candidates to file petitions with the Municipal Election Commission

A: Mayor - $960.00
    City Council Member - $600.00
    Commissioner of Public Works - $100
