On Saturday, May 1st, The Children’s Museum of the Upstate, located at 300 College Street, opened a custom-built putt-putt course exhibit, Geo’s Golf: Swinging Through Greenville. This exhibit includes 9 unique holes inspired by Upstate locations and landmarks–such as The Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail, the city skyline and the Blue Ridge Mountains.
TCMU hosted a sponsor evening on Thursday, April 29th in order to recognize lead sponsor Green Valley Country Club, as well as additional exhibit sponsors Carolina Foothills Federal Credit Union, CertaPro Painters Greenville East, Emanate Brands, SYNNEX Corporation and World Acceptance Corporation. A life-size golf cart, that children can sit in and pretend to drive, was generously donated by Garrett’s Golf Cars, LLC. TCMU was joined by The Greenville Chamber for a ribbon cutting to introduce the exhibit.
Children and families will enter Geo’s Golf through a life-size golf caddy shack, where they will pick up a putter according to their height, scorecard and golf ball. Each of the 9 holes is designed to introduce children of all ages to various STEM related concepts–such as force, friction and speed–in relation to the game of golf. Families can learn about the history of golf and the various components that contribute to the game–from golf attire, to golf course turf to the many golf courses throughout the state of South Carolina!
“We are SO thrilled to be bringing an entirely NEW exhibit to TCMU-Greenville. Not only will this exhibit breathe new life into our spaces, but Geo’s Golf will also recognize the incredible golf culture of the Upstate,” says Programs Manager, Javy Pagan “The exhibit is designed to let families engage and play together in an entirely new way–on a golf course! We can’t wait to welcome visitors for their first round of 9 at Geo’s Golf.”
The exhibit will operate during museum hours only (Tuesday-Saturday 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and Sundays 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.). Families can access the course on a first-come-first-serve basis. For the safety of the community, social distancing will be required, and guests will be asked to play the course in order of the numbered holes. TCMU-Greenville continues to implement advance timed-entry tickets, which has proven successful in allowing TCMU staff to monitor museum capacity. Advance tickets can be purchased online at www.tcmupstate.org.
