Preparing to celebrate its 50th anniversary of service to the community, Greenville County Human Relations Commission (GCHRC) was created in 1972 to improve the quality of life in the County of Greenville by promoting positive community relations and equal opportunity. Offering a range of both housing and financial education services, GCHRC was recognized by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as the Fair Housing Agency for Greenville County in 1986, and in 2001, GCHRC became a HUD-approved Housing Counseling Agency (LHCA).
GCHRC’s signature financial counseling program, the Greenville Financial Empowerment Center (FEC), is based on a nationally recognized program model first piloted by Mayor Michael Bloomberg in New York City. Since launching Greenville FEC in 2019, GCHRC’s professional financial counselors have assisted 1,493 clients in reducing debt, building credit, and achieving their savings goals. Collectively, these clients have reduced debt by $1,685,135 and saved $731,284.
