5 Reasons to Attend the ATHENA Leadership Symposium

Posted by: Megan Campbell on Thursday, October 28, 2021

On November 10th, the Greenville Chamber will host the 10th Annual ATHENA Leadership Symposium. The event is held each year to help advance women’s leadership in the Upstate.

The ATHENA Leadership Symposium is a unique women’s leadership program inspired by recipients of the ATHENA Leadership Award®. Since 2001, the Greenville Chamber has partnered with ATHENA International to present this prestigious award to women who have made significant contributions to Greenville in promoting community prosperity and quality of life.

We hope you will join us as we honor some of our region’s incredible women leaders and learn from internationally renowned entrepreneur, Shelley Zalis.

Here are 5 reasons to attend one of our most popular events of the year:

      1. Gain great takeaways

For the past 10 years, the ATHENA Leadership Symposium has hosted inspiring female leaders from across the nation to share strategies for advancing women’s leadership and empowering women to achieve their full potential. You will leave with takeaways you can implement in your personal and professional life immediately. Plus, this event is not just for the women; men can also gain a deeper understanding of how to be an ally and create equitable workplace environments.

      2. Make connections and be a part of a meaningful community

Each year, one of the best parts about this event is the connections formed among attendees. Though this event will be held virtually, you will still have the opportunity to engage with fellow attendees and to be a part of a supportive, inspired community.

      3. You can’t miss Shelley Zalis

You’ve likely seen the #SeeHer campaign – Shelley Zalis was a co-founder! Plus, that’s just the tip of the iceberg of her many outstanding accomplishments.

Shelley is known as the “chief troublemaker,” is a pioneer for online research, movement leader, and champion of gender equality. She is an entrepreneur, speaker, mentor, and founder and CEO of The Female Quotient.

In 2000, she left the corporate world to found OTX (Online Testing Exchange), which became one of the fastest growing research companies in the world. She sold OTX to Ipsos in 2010, and then led global innovation in more than 80 countries at Ipsos OTX.

Today, through The Female Quotient, Zalis is advancing gender equality across industries and career levels.

Zalis authors a Forbes column that provides advice for women in middle management [remove comma] who are looking to rise up into leadership positions and serves on the board of directors for MAKERS and ColorComm.

      4. Celebrate and honor an outstanding emerging leader

An exciting addition this year will be the the presentation of the ATHENA Young Professional Award. The ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award actively supports and celebrates the ATHENA mission of supporting, developing and honoring women leaders, inspiring women to achieve their full potential and creating balance in leadership worldwide.

The ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award will be presented to an emerging leader who demonstrates excellence, creativity and initiative in their business or profession.

      5. Be a part of the legacy of excellence

This high-energy event will celebrate 10 incredible years of the ATHENA Leadership Symposium. You don’t want to miss out on the fun.
