The Greenville Chamber recently helped Freedom Plasma cut the ribbon on their new plasma donation center. The state-of-the-art center is located at 2422 Wade Hampton Blvd. in Greenville. Donated plasma is a life-saving gift, according to Freedom Plasma’s Center Director Ashley Hardrick. Blood plasma is in great demand around the world because it is used to create plasma-based therapies and medicines that treat many diseases and chronic illnesses. The new center in Greenville will help meet that demand.
Making a plasma donation involves a short exam by in-house medical professionals, then donors roll up their sleeves and donate plasma much the same way as a blood donation. The donation procedure uses a safe, sterile, self-contained automated process called plasmapheresis that separates plasma from blood. Plasma can be donated up to twice a week, and donors are compensated for their time while donating. First responders and military donors get an extra bonus as recognition of their service. Having a plasma donation center in Greenville adds an extra $5 million to the local economy. The new Freedom Plasma center in Greenville is open Tuesday through Saturday. If you’d like more information about plasma donation, call the center at 864-252-9625 or visit Freedomplasma.com.
