Come celebrate small business with us as we honor outstanding small businesses in our community. The Excellence in Entrepreneurship Small Business Awards recognition program is a chance for CommunityWorks and the Greenville Chamber to come together to recognize and celebrate all the entrepreneurs, micro and small businesses that make our region unique and vibrant. Awards will be given to businesses pioneering innovative business solutions in our community. Categories include: Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Minority-Owned Small Business of the Year, Woman-Owned Small Business of the Year, Entrepreneurial Success Award, Small Business Champion of the Year, and a people’s choice award called My Favorite Small Business. Awards will be presented at the Excellence in Entrepreneurship event.
MEET OUR SPEAKER
Joe Erwin is the co-founder and former president of national marketing agency Erwin Penland (now EP+Co), which he and his wife Gretchen opened in 1986 with one employee, and grew to 400 staff in Greenville and New York with clients including Verizon, Denny’s & L.L. Bean. In 2015, Joe left EP to open Erwin Creates, which operates downtown coworking destination Endeavor, supports Clemson’s Erwin Center for Brand Communications, and provides leadership consulting services to senior executives. In 2018, Joe became the lead owner of the Greenville Triumph professional soccer team – with a mission to inspire unity and create joy by bringing together and serving the diverse, international Upstate community. The team made it all the way to the League Championship Match in its inaugural 2019 season, and opened Season Two at its temporary home stadium at Legacy Early College in July 2020.
MEET OUR EMCEE
As most of you know, Curtis is no stranger to hard work, currently the Quiet Storm personality on WWDM, also known as "The Big DM", and the morning News Anchor for WOLO-TV ABC channel 25! He is known as the "Official Voice of the Benedict College Tigers and is currently the Mic Man for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks Athletics Department for the Men and Women’s Basketball and Gamecock Baseball. Curtis is also the voice for the Southeastern Conference Championship (SEC) series for men and women’s basketball and men’s baseball. Curtis doesn't allow any moss to grow under his feet as he is the voice of Blazer Football for Ridge View High School as well, and you can hear him Saturday's on WJMZ - 107.3 Jamz in Greenville from 2-6pm. Born in Brooklyn N.Y, Curtis is a graduate of The NY School of Announcing and Speech for Broadcasting and is a graduate of Benedict College with a degree in Mass Communications. He is a veteran of the United States Army where he served as a Nuclear Biological Specialist with the 2nd Chemical Battalion, 181st Chemical Company, and he is a member of Brookland Baptist Church. He's very involved in The Midlands community and volunteers with Harvest Hope Food Bank, Boys and Girls Club, Sickle Cell Foundation, American Red Cross, Oliver Gospel Mission, United Way, Columbia Urban League and many other organizations. He has received numerous awards and citations to include The Martin Luther King Drum Major Award, Music Director of the Year, and Radio Personality of the Year to name a few. Curtis enjoys working with our youth especially warning them about the dangers of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs in the teen community. He is married to the former Kecia Young and they have one son Chaz.
