The Barbara Stone Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on supporting visionary and creative programs for individuals with disabilities, will host CAN Talks, a special event where five individuals with disabilities, living in the Upstate, will share their unique stories and insights to spark new conversations, challenge outdated stereotypes, and broaden perspectives. CAN Talks will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, from 6:40 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., at Centre Stage, located at 501 River Street in downtown Greenville. Admission is $25, and tickets can be purchased at www.GVLCANtalks.org. Virtual tickets are also available for $10.
“The level of commitment CAN Talks speakers make to be part of this memorable event is extremely admirable, especially since the process of developing their speech comes from a place of vulnerability and is often out of a speaker’s comfort zone,” said Lara Ceisel, executive director of the Barbara Stone Foundation. “Speakers work for months, with the help of a coach, to craft a deeply personal speech. Our speakers’ commitment and dedication to the process builds and improves public speaking abilities tremendously.”
Doors open at 5:45 p.m. for a cocktail reception, and CAN Talks starts at 6:40 p.m. Barbara Stone Foundation Fall Community Innovations Grant winners will also be announced. A sign language interpreter is available for the hearing impaired, and accommodations will be made for guests upon request. Seating for those who use a wheelchair is limited to eight individuals.
