Walt’s Waltz is a Greenville-based nonprofit founded in 2019 after the loss of Susan Crooks’ son, Walt, to suicide. Just two days later, Walt’s brother said, “Mom, we will start a movement. If we save one life . . .” That moment continues to guide everything we do.
Our work is grounded in the belief that mental health should be treated with the same urgency as physical health. We focus on education, equity, and creating stigma-free environments so individuals feel safe to talk about what they are experiencing. Since we began, we have reached thousands across the Upstate through Painting Mental Health Workshops and community-based programs that meet people where they are. More than 5,500 individuals have participated in our workshops, over 2,250 in our Community Cookbook programs, and more than 20,000 individuals have received self-care materials, tips, and affirmations. We integrate visual and performing arts into all that we do, using creativity to open the door to conversation, reflection, and healing. Walt’s Waltz has gained the reputation of always showing up. More than a nonprofit, we are a movement.
Supporting Walt’s Waltz helps us continue to say yes to our community. Our annual Raffle Rouser is our only fundraiser of the year and a fun, meaningful way to get involved. There are incredible prizes, including a $500 gift card to Scoundrel, a two-night stay at the Hyatt Regency Greenville, amazing excursions, and beautiful works of art. We invite you to browse over 75 items and take a chance. You really cannot lose. Every ticket purchased directly supports our workshops, stigma-free environments, and self-care resources, helping us continue this work across our community.
