The Asociación Hispano-Americana de Mujeres (AHAM), also known as Hispanic-American Women’s Association, was established as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization in 1998.
Since its inception, AHAM has dedicated to promote the Hispanic folklore, culture, and traditions, and provide scholarships to high school graduates of Hispanic descent in Upstate SC. These scholarships have enabled Hispanic students to pursue higher education, at a university, technical college, or vocational school of their choice. The scholarship program is made possible through donations received from private businesses, individuals, and the volunteer work of all AHAM members in fundraising activities.
AHAM also collaborates with other Upstate non-profit organizations.
In 1999, AHAM awarded $1,000.00 to Sara Hooper, who continued her successful academic career at Clemson University and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Education in 2003. Since its foundation, AHAM has awarded a total of $ 272,300 in scholarships benefiting 119 outstanding Hispanic students in the Upstate SC.
