Highlights of the upcoming event season include the following:
- Jacob Johnson, August 31, 2023, 7:30 PM: “To watch Jacob Johnson play guitar is to watch someone do what he was born to do. Johnson glides up and down the fretboard with total confidence in a way that reminds one of Leo Kottke, barely looking at the instrument as he weaves delicate, dazzling melody lines with the occasional percussive thump on the strings. His sense of melody is as strong as his virtuosic playing, and his songwriting reveals a modestly bemused look at the world.” – Artist’s biographical statement
- Iliana Rose Cuban Jazz Band, October 5, 2023, 7:30 PM: “Iliana Rose is a fantastic musician. Born in Miami and raised by Cuban parents and grandparents, she is steeped in Cuban rhythms and culture. Being a genuine prodigy, she started playing music at the age of four. After years of classical training, she graduated from the prestigious University of Miami as well as the National Piano Guild with performance degrees. Iliana produces full-length albums, plays recording sessions, and is also an excellent recording engineer. She composes music for films and arranges songs for Latin jazz bands with up to twenty-five pieces. Now residing on the east coast, Iliana is ready to rock new audiences!” – Artist’s biographical statement
- Tamara Wilcox, November 16, 2023, 7:30 PM: Tamara Wilcox will perform on one of the Museum’s historical pianos – the 1784 Johann Andreas Stein Grand Piano. “While Tamara Wilcox has been playing piano most of her life, it’s only recently that she has been exploring the world of some of the piano’s unusual relatives: keyboard instruments that are a mix of distant ancestors and unusual cousins, including the harpsichord, spinet, and the toy piano… Wilcox teaches and plays keyboard instruments at SUNY Brockport, where she is on the faculty of the Department of Theater and Music Studies. She has been combining her exploration of these instruments with another of her interests: researching, teaching, and playing the work of women composers.” - WXXI News | By Mona Seghatoleslami, Max Schulte | Published February 25, 2023, at 11:36 PM EST
